p.1 #1 · Before Sunrise, Grand Canyon [UPDATE WITH NEW VERSION]
I continue to look back at photos from the past in an attempt to improve upon the editing techniques that I originally attempted and hopefully be self-critical on what I would have done differently in the field.
I decided to visit the Grand Canyon in 2010 while on a business trip. This decision didn't happen until I was already in Vegas, so I really only packed for hot/warm weather. The morning of this photo it was below 30 degrees, and I arrived about an hour and a half before sunrise with just a t-shirt and shorts...not smart. I certainly wish I could go back in time and plan to wear some warm clothing, it would have made it so much more enjoyable this morning.

Hey Matthew,
Yeah, even a long pair of pants would have been great! But that must be a great business where you can wear just a t-shirt and shorts.
This is a very cool looking shot, the sky may be just a bit hot towards the sun, but overall I really like this one and the depth it has in it. A nice composition, and good processing. It's hard to tell you were shivering!

Ha, for the business trip I had my suits with me, I would have looked pretty goofy standing in the dark photographing at the Grand Canyon in a suit I think!

What we photographers have to suffer to get the shot!
Technically it is a great shot. Beautiful tones and nice depth. I don't have a problem with the hot bit. That very bright part in the foreground on the left does keep grabbing my attention however. If I cover it up the picture seems much more balanced. Perhaps you should consider darkening it.
