Getting ready to go home after a long 9 month deployment to Afghanistan. Figured I would start a thread to post some of the photos I took along the way. More will follow.
Our base was hit by a vehicle born bomb weighing over 10,000 pounds. Luckily no US deaths, but unfortunately a few innocent Afghans in the nearby market were taken. Pictured is a Paratrooper standing guard after the blast.
The bomb squad examines the blast site. The bomb that morning was 5 times the size of the truck bomb used in Oklahoma City.
An injured Afghan police officer is evacuated from the scene.
About a month after the above mentioned incident we lost a brother. He was a father, brother, son, and friend to many; still miss him today.
AH-64 Apache protecting us from the sky. Nothing makes us feel safer.
First, I appreciate anyone who serves others or their country.
Second, I am glad to see more servicemen posting photos here.
I also find photos from a zone like this interesting to see, so I do hope you will post more in the future.
Also, I consider captions important and valuable to helping others understand what YOU saw or what is in the photo. So, please continue to post captions or back story introduction remarks as they help others understand.
A Soldier re-enlists to continue his service to our great nation. Especially inspiring when this occurs in a combat zone.
Maiden Shar, the city outside our base, just south of Kabul. A Taliban favorite to be used as a staging area for attacks on Kabul.
Mail delivery! The roads are too dangerous for anything to drive on them but up-armored vehicles, so our mail comes by air! (Unfortunately it is not as fast as Air Mail though!)
Great images of the people who lay their lives on the line for us. Thanks for your service and I am sure you are looking forward to coming home! Thanks for sharing all of your images.
I echo the above, thank you for your service.
I find these difficult to look at because my son enlisted last Thursday and will ship out in July.
His recruiter has essentially guaranteed that he will be in Afghanistan sooner rather than later due to his age, his chosen MOS and his airborne ranger status.
Stay safe.
God Bless you and all the troops serving. Thank you for your service, wishing you safe passage back to your family and friends. Good to see images from the perspective of the troops.
Thank you each and everyone for the outpouring of support. I will tell you that being apart from my wife and daughter these past 9 months has been nothing short of difficult and I have never been so excited for anything in my life as I am to see them in a few weeks.
I will never take for granted another evening, weekend, or vacation with my family. The support you all give makes our sacrifice easier, thank you for having our backs!
Thanks for posting these. You will have them to remember your experience. Were you taking these personally or as part of your duty? The support shown now to our troops and veterans is critical to their welfare. We've come a long way since Vietnam. Enjoy every minute of being home.

A little of both, some for work, some for personal reasons. Couldn't agree more on the support since Vietnam, thank you all!
