Actually I belive it's better in Europe, or Thailand where you stay. In the USA they have to pay for being a CPS member. It's free here. And you can't beat the service from Canon in Bangkok. It's a one day return nearly every time. And they lend you cameras if your is broken.
@ Grant, congrats on the gift. You are probably in their register. Where you a CPS member before?

Yes I have loaned 1 series bodies from them. When I left my own cameras for repair. And I'm a European CPS member so they don't have to do it either. They only like to see and make a copy of my passport before I walked away with the camera.
They also give me the CPS discount even if they don't have to. And clean sensor/camera/lenses for free when visiting. But I buy my Canon equipment here in Bangkok. And they know that because they have all the seriel numbers in their computer. So I never have to show any warranty or receipt from the shop.
It's not that good in Europe! I'm a platinum member & have never received a gift in 7 years! I have to pay for all my repairs and they're not even that quick! Only plus is membership is free, but you're getting next to nothing for it, unless you shoot at events where Canon are, and if you are a wedding photographer that's no events!
