Take Nikkon and Sony Nex camera apart, cut and hack till Sony bits fit in the Nikkon bits, put back together, and hopefully have a working digital Nikkon SLR.

If he places the sensor at the former location of the film, then the mirror box and the rest could stay. He would need to coordinate the release of the mechanical shutter with the release of the electronic shutter, but one step at a time. My feeling is that either a) we will never hear about this project again, or b) a whole bunch of people will get very enthusiastic about this, and figure out the solutions to all the problems on the way, open source style. Nikkormat ELs suddenly get disproportionately expensive

That's where a NEX-7 or 6 (or the EVF add on for the 5N) would be useful in that you could move the EVF to where the eye piece goes.
