I have heard that there are many good camera shops, with many used gears in good conditions in Japan, anyone here have experience with that? I will go to Tokyo (again, 2nd trip there within 4 months ) and might visit some if I have time. Any recommendations? I will be around Tokyo/Kanto area but won't have much time going too far away. Thanks.
This might be a good start, been there twice already myself. Even so Canon and Nikon are Japanese products, don't expect on new equipment bargain prices (compared to Europe). I have not seen any second hand shop for photo gear http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akihabara
I was at two this summer. They aren't places you'll find just walking around. There was even a place that focused more on vintage/manual-focus stuff - very cool.
I'll ask my buddy who took me there for names, etc.
Yes, I remember that picture in this forum, just couldn't locate it. .. oh well, I'm more interested in used lens than old bodies (already have enough...or even too many).. ok... a Canon body for alternative glass sounds nice ... too bad year end bonus this time is disappointing so very unlikely that I will come back with a Canon body..

Thanks again.
They had whole walls of used lenses. They are some seriously cool places.
I'll ping my buddy to see if I can get more specific names/locations (if he remembers them), but MAP camera is one to start with...
The camera stores are in Shinjuku (although there are other places as well). The well-known shop is Yodobashi.
They're a delight.
That much I know. Friends dropped me off there a few years ago and although I ventured into several shops, I still don't know which ones I was actually in since I couldn't read a thing and the people I asked didn't understand me. Oh well.
