p.7 #1 · Will Canon answer the D800e?

I have a bit different situation than most people - I could just go in the back and take whatever best fit whatever I'm photographing that day. We've changed company policies effectively this summer and I won't have that option anymore so it's time for me to buy a system. I've chewed, tested, and fiddled for 6 weeks deciding which way to go.

What I want is the T4i's touch screen, the 6Ds WiFi, the 5DIII's autofocus, with the D800e sensor, Nikon's flash system, Pentax's user interface (I'd take their sensor too, if I went crop frame) and mostly Canon lenses. What I don't want is Nikon's customer service and repair service.

So I bought an RX100 to tide me over while I think about things some more. . . .

I don't mean to include chez, but it seems there is an aversion by some members to the simplicity of your solution. I agree: why not buy an additional camera and lens to satisfy a need? It's only gear, not a religion. I did that back when Canon only offered an FD 35 TS lens and I needed wider -- so bought a Nikon FE2 and their 28 PC lens (until selling my FD and Nikon gear and switching to Canon EOS and the 24 TS-E). I didn't buy any other Nikon lenses, and continued to use 4x5 as my

I wish it was that simple, just a D800 and 1 lens. Unfortunately, my landscape photos span from ultra wide to my 300mm telephoto so having just one lens would be very limiting...at least for me. Also, carrying both my 5D2 outfit along with the D800 and 14-24 just makes it very combersome and heavy. I guess I want my cake and eat it as well. I am OK waiting for Canon's solution...at least for the immediate future.

Chez -- Yup! We'll just tough it out. The gear is so good, even back a generation or so that it's no real hardship.

Roger -- Great idea about the RX100! Looks like a great little camera for general use.

Sorry to hear there's gonna be barbwire strung around the honeypot. I'm sure you'll come up with an intriguing and educational solution.

What? Awe man, that's like being and kid and the candy store says "sorry kid, no more free samples." Bummer!

I knew your retirement would have negative consequences! /pessimist /conspiracytheorist.

Edit --

Solution! Get the head's up on retired gear sales before they're posted and get the "blogger's discount" ??

Awe man my wife would kill me, I'd be way out of control.

I would not like to work for a company that mistreats my personal belongings so hard ...
My advice: Buy everithing except the D800e. So you do not get into any danger to get something you do not want ;-)

I'm going one better (or at least trying to) -- I told them today I thought that the whole sales department should be transferred over to testing / quality assurance so I can closely supervise it

We'll see how that goes over.

As to the RX100 - it's a blast. Although yesterday I went looking for it and couldn't find it. Until my stepson mentioned it was probably in mom's purse. Which it was. That does not bode well.

A fellow at work who just bought an S100 a few months ago was showing me his new RX100 the other day. 1.4 lens. The images were incredible, and not just incredible "for a P&S." But then, it did cost over $600.

You're kidding, right? Talk about building up credits, and you didn't even have to think about it!

Nice try to distract from the original topic with a totally different camera (RX100). Even it might be a good P&S camera, it is off topic here.

Point taken. We'll now return you to your regularly scheduled match. I believe the score is tied at 2-2.

Don't get me wrong, Roger - I agree with your above point mentioned that each camera has pros and cons and it depends on the user to decide which one is best for a specific style of photography. I am also very well aware that this is a Canon (support) forum, so I don't even go there to win this match - even I admit it is a lot of fun seeing a bunch of fanboys screaming and trying to silence people expressing another opinion than their own. No offense taken .

I have no intention to put you in a hole, Gunzorro. I think you are a great fun part here.
