Thanks guys, the 50 is a great little lens and contrary to the thoughts of it being a easy to break lens I have used it in lots situations and it has been bumped,banged etc... Everyone should give that lens a try for a week.
Gotta join in the love for the 50. I went to a local pro-wrestling show last weekend -- just as an audience member, not as the "official" photographer -- and brought along a stripped-down version of my rig (10D with no battery pack, no external flash, and my recently purchased 50mm Mk I). Two matches in, the promoter -- being hipped to who I was by a mutual friend -- sidled up to me and said "You can shoot at ringside, if you want."
Obviously, I missed the compositional freedom of my 24-70L zoom, but it was weirdly liberating to shoot with "just" the prime and the built-in flash. An example is attached.
