If you're such a stickler for the rules, you're probably aware that credit card companies' Terms of Service prohibit charging a fee for use of their cards, yet PayPal charges this fee anyway, in clear violation of the TOS. How do you rationalize that?
Paypal charges the fee in clear violation of its own terms?

Just a PSA
1) Paypal payment flow now defaults to service and goods as the default payment method (so sometimes when people intended friends and family, defaults to services and goods)
2) Paypal is now enforcing its policy of retaining the Paypal fee should a refund be processed. I have had a few situations where there was a mixup in payments and I needed to process the refund--in those instances Paypal wound up keeping the PayPal fee.
So make sure you and buyer are aware of this situation before processing payments.
Here is the language directly from PayPal's website:
Will I get my transaction fee back?
If you issue a refund for goods or services, there are no fees to issue the refund, but the fees you originally paid as the seller are not returned to you.. The amount of the refunded payment will be deducted from your PayPal account. Note that you can refund the entire amount of a transaction or portions of it, and that the default refund period is 180 days from the transaction date.
Thanks for the link! Looks like Zelle is way more secure for the seller than paypal. The bank won't just reverse the transaction and take the money out of your account, just because the buyer claims he received a brick.
For the buyer, you need to do the home work and check the seller feedback etc, a good practice anyway.

dont send the item until u can verify that the cashiers check is valid. depending on the type of c.c. whether postal or bank or whatever, go to your bank and either cash or deposit it. they will know right then.

Hello, am a new member here. Read through this thread, does it mean no one will sell me an item if I don't have activity on the forum?

This thread has nothing to do with new members or their standing. It is only about using Paypal responsibly. You can trade here without any trouble, but keep in mind that's it's important to provide folks with your track record, your feedback record. And good luck!

I HATE Paypal with a passion because they screwed me over years ago with an item I sold. There's got to be another solution other than just Paypal. I use Square with all my clients and it works great. I've used it to sell things here as well.

Hi, Have previously only purchased on this site, but for health reasons its time to sell. I'm a bit nervous about doing so because: a) items are pricey (D4S and 400mm 2.8), and b) I'm old and not super savvy about any kind of on-line transactions.
In addition to only using the regular PayPal transaction (with included fees), and shipping insured, what else should I be on the lookout for. I used to only purchase from folks with decent buy/sell activity, but have been mostly inactive these past few years as I've been happy with my gear and have been using it.

I am posting to warn others here on FM to be extra cautious when contacted by someone different than than the original poster of an item. I was scammed.
I inquired about a lens for sale. The original poster had notifications turned off for PM and did not immediately respond. But someone else contacted me and said they had the same item for sale. His pitch seemed credible although I was suspicious because he found me - I din't find or contact him.
I agreed to buy the item and paid for it using Paypal. Instead of receiving the lens I received a worthless metal token; it looks like a pressed coin or medallion. The person represented himself as Michael Cifranic and my Paypal payment was made to Tyler Wick. Ashamed to say I was duped.
I have had several easy and successful transactions here on FM but it seems the world keeps getting darker. Beware.
I am in the middle of a claim with Paypal. I hope I get my money back ($720).

For me, there's been an uptick in scam-y feeling PMs and attempts to buy, even using sophisticated websites and whatnot to appear as a famous or professional photographer. Just an FYI. I don't want to name and shame anyone because I'm not 100% sure it's a scam, but I will no longer sell to anyone without a track record and who isn't subscribed to buy and sell.
