So I took the Speed Booster + EF 100mm f/2 USM out this weekend for some shooting at a bouldering competition regional final. I'm very pleased with way the Speed Booster disappeared (as if I was shooting a manual-focus FF) behind a modern lens, but also that long FL + wide open (due to interior lighting and the need to freeze action) = candid action w/low DoF = quite the challenge for my manual-focus-fu. But the 10fps of the NEX made "point of crisis" timing of explosive moves and falling competitors a no-brainer.
Two pros on-site (one associated with a sponsored competitor, the other associated with the venue) shooting Nikon pro-bodies didn't have my problems nailing critical focus, but I haven't seen anything from them to suggest that they had as much ease with timing. ...Show more →
Yes, she just blew off a match (two hands on the same hold) on the blue sloper (a hold that isn't positive, that is to say nothing to close your hands/fingers around to lock-in; just a smooth surface that 'slopes away' for you to exert pressure and friction on; that ramp angle is also why she's launched about 2 feet back from where she should've been).
I was able to take advantage of 1) being pre-focused (necessarily had to be, being manual focus), 2) the super-short 0.02s shutter lag, 3) the effortless 10fps burst from not having a flapping mirror, and 6) my not-entirely-terrible reaction time to catch 5 shots of her on the way down. This is the first frame, which is why neither her hair nor her chalk bag has flipped. She gained too much speed on subsequent frames for even the 1/400s shutter speed to freeze with any clarity.
From doing a bit more reading around, the "Lens Turbo"/chinese speed booster should drop in price after the initial hype. Either it is retailing at ~$110 over there, or that may have been a trade show special price.
The humongous price difference between it and the Metabones about has me ready to buy an NEX-6 and ditch my 6D.

it could be, that the quality of the cheap speed booster is not as nice as the expensive original SB.
People seem to forget that this thing is priced like a camera lens, because that's what it is. What would you expect from a brand new $110 prime? Not much of course.

At $200, it's not exactly cheap. When you consider there are no electronics.
Are you kidding? The electronics must be like 1/100 of the total cost of such a thing. What costs is the glass and keeping tolerances. You can't get that for $200 if you want good quality optics.
This thread has some great discussion around the Speed Booster. I have pretty much read everything from Pg 20 on.
I am considering getting the C/Y Speedbooster for my NEX-7 along with some Zeiss glass, but I am not sure if the sharpness problem perost posted about is just his Speedbooster or a problem with all the C/Y Speedboosters and Zeiss glass. Does anyone else have any examples using the 50mm f1.4 Planar and the C/Y Speedbooster? I don't want to invest if the edges are so blurry.

If metabones had a Nikon f spedbooster, I would probably not be considering the cheap one.
With an adapter ring you can use Nikon glass on two current versions of the Metabones SB : Canon EF and Alpa, albeit at a price. The Canon SB is more expensive for having electronics and the problem with the Alpa SB is that Nikon to Alpa adapters are scarce and really expensive.
