Looks amazing. I would love to see how detailed a large print of this would be. Did you handhold this pano or did you bring a tripod up on your roof aswell?
I know that set of Aspen. And I must admit I have driven by them many a time. Course, I have stopped and shot them on an occassion too... You did this very well, nice job. Now standing on the roof of your car to take these? How did you not cave in the roof? They definitely don't make cars today like they used to...
Tripod to the roof!! Almost positive...though by the ss it could have been handheld. Sometimes I get 'lazy'
And standing on the roof w/o caving it in is a tricky ordeal. But fun for someone that's watching I'm sure. Now if only I could explain the footprints to the rental company...
@jim - you're the second person to recognize that stand. thanks!
OK Aaron,
If you are hard core as I expect you are, stopping, turning around & driving back 5 miles is the real sign of commitment to the shot! Now of course some would say 10 miles, some 20...
@dan - i might have even for this shot. i know there are some that i've had to pull u'eys for...think i got the brakes in time for this one. when i travel i usually have my foot ready to stop quickly though. always scanning
@dan - amazing how many people know this spot. hilarious
I think that all of us who shoot the Sierra in the fall and have driven south on 395 from Mammoth toward Bishop know this spot... and probably have our own humorous or embarrassing stories of slamming on the brakes or doing u-turns of questionable legality...
Yes, somewhere I have photographs of this little grouping, too. :-)
When I last shot this stand I stopped a bit beyond it then backed up on the shoulder. The State Trooper that came out of his hiding spot told me that that was an illegal move.
