I imagine the people would be equally friendly to Americans in most of SE Asia- especially Burma where we have had so little political or military involvement.
Reason: the people of SE Asia are naturally friendly and gracious.
Those directly involved in the tourist trade tend to become somewhat jaded through the years, but not the average person on the street.

They could be on their first date, or they might be engaged to be married.
In either case, the people of the region are very modest in their dress and their behavior, especially in public.
Unlike many people in the US and a few other countries, where the "showoff mentality" often borders the indecent.
(Opinion formed after being part of American society for a very long time, and after having traveled to more than 50 other countries.)
