Scott Stoness and I went out to Castle Mtn this morning and then continued on to Emerald Lake. This is converted to black and white because there was no colour in the image. Comments welcome.
That looks cold! What's cool about this is it looks like a black-hole-esque pinch distortion in the center, where the stream comes from, but I think it's just an optical illusion... quite cool.
I do think it's a tad too grey, I might try to push the levels up a tad.
Myself, I was liking the first one the best. I think with your making the whites more white you have lost detail in both the sky and the ground, now they both kinda feel more towards being blown out. While I can appreciate the suggestions for you to make them white, with the detail in the sky, the feeling I get is from a kind of gloomy wintery day. Maybe that's not how it was. If you were to try and make it whiter, I think there is an inbetween you could go for. But again, myself. I like the first one.
As you know, snow can be so tricky to expose. I usually keep my eye on the snow and bring up the exposure until the white is just about blown. Then I adjust the highlight recovery a bit to suit my taste. Nice pic Dan!
