#1 is a pretty sweet shot here. It may not have had the color you wanted, but it still looks pretty good. Now as to being prepared... unless it's a can of Pepsi, I am sorry, you just really aren't prepared...

I just ordered a couple of the Can levels. I heard that with use, they become lighter and less precise..
I like the first shot. It's a beautiful location and it's worth a revisit for the dusk colors you envisioned.

Zeph- You'd better straighten the right side of the tripod shot a little before your Canadian level slides off. One percent should do it .
The first image does it for me. A lovely and frigid scene.
