My prediction is the 1DXs or whatever it is called will make the 1Dx look inexpensive.
My prediction is a giant brick with 39MP and 6fps and superb video at $8000 would be a dangerous game, despite being better (this assumes they do have a new process to match low ISO DR) than the nice small 36MP D800. If they can get it into something not too much larger than a 5 series and priced between 1DX and 5D3 that would be a better starting point, vastly better video, similar to a somewhat better sensor (same at low iso and 1/2 stop better at high SNR and 1-1.5 stops better DR at high iso), a touch better AF?, more fps than the D800 for more money but not 2.5-3x more.
Apparently the A99 does 24MP at 12fps so more and more pressure it being put on fancy specs for intermediate price points.

I think based on prior Canon releases, the big mp camera will be a 1D series full size, $8500 offering. About 15 months after it hits the streets and sales begin to wane, they will announce a smaller 5D sized body with the same or tweaked sensor. Hopefully the Yen will continue to fall relative to the Dollar and we'll realize the benefits of the better exchange rate either through better MSRP or rebates later on.

The 5D III will be likely around $2K or below at this point, so a new camera could be in the $2900 range as justified price.
I predict a 7DII with better AF system, 7 FPS, and 18 Mpix or so in the first half of the year.
1Dx III with 42 Mpix, $8500 price tag in the latter part of the year, will go back to a photo priority camera without major video component so as not to rob from the 1Dc.

You think the 7dmkII will take fewer fps than the 7d?
Not unless they only use a single digic V+. 1D X uses 2 digic V+ to get 12fps from 18MP and 5D III uses 1 digic V+ to do 6fps with 22MP. I think 7D will be 21-24MP so will need dual digic V+ and will still do 8fps but may go a little higher. Some reports of it being 10fps, but that won't happen @ 24MP as that's more throughput than 1D X. Note 9fps @ 24MP is the same throughput as 12fps @ 18MP.

That is assuming the processors are the bottle neck in the system.

I predict 7D2:
5D3 AF, 10fps,24MP
Exmor level low ISO DR
1/2 stop better high ISO than 7D2 (1 stop for DR)
$2300
EOS CS:
39 MP - 4k video/utterly superb 2k video filtered down
6.1fps
5D3 AF and slightly improved 5D3 metering (maybe 1DX AF and metering if they use a big brick size, hope not)
Exmor level low ISO DR
1DX/D4 level high ISO SNR/DR
hope, hope body only slightly larger than 5D-size
$4500
70D:
7D AF and metering, 5-6.5fps, 24MP
Exmor level low ISO DR
1/2 stop better high ISO than 7D (1 stop for DR)
$1300
if they have the much better sensors and full speed (digic 6) it may be end of 2013 for in stores and not this spring,if it hits this spring I think the specs might be way worse than i suggest, i hope they go for the held off instead of rush possibility options
I truly hope, though, that this time around the 7DII will use a different sensor than the 70D/Rebels.
Like a 16-18mp sensor vs 24mp for the rest of the 1.6x models.
Or, if all 1.6x models use the same sensor, I hope that it will be a 20mp sensor.
Why put 24mp on the sports camera (7DII), when the landscape camera (6D) has 'just' 20mp .
Okay, I thought on this, an upgrade for my crop; 40D would be nice...if not 2013 then 2014
Say an upgrade to the 7D, with the following...
- more MPs if the ISO/DR are higher/cleaner
- AF system like the 5D3 but with the red AF confirm issue fixed/re-designed; center AF point -3ev
- dual card slots like 5D3
- priced around 2k

On a sports body I'd much rather they concentrate their efforts on high ISO then low ISO. Not saying you can't have both but 1/2 stop improvement at high ISO seems pretty marginal at best. Exmor technology is not going to help when you need shutter speed in low light.
24MP New generation sensor, based on 0.18um process, 2 stop better DR, superior to EXMOOR for noise and colour, similar shadow performance. 1 stop cleaner at pixel level than 7D at all ISO's. Weaker AA filter will allow superb level of detail at lower ISO's
ISO 50-51200.
9fps, dual digic Vb - improved version of V+
30 RAW with UDMA 7 and UHS-I cards, unlimited jpgs
All new 47pt AF based on 5D III AF, -2.5 - 20EV. Improved Servo algorithm compared to 5D III
Larger * button to help with those that use it for AF
3.3" 900*600 1.62MP IPS display. Tilt and swivel with unique new seal
Improved metering taking into account colour better than 5D III. More accurate exposure with bright and dark objects
Wifi and GPS,
dual slots, CF + SD, with suport for UHS-I so SD card is useful
1080p @ 60fps
100% VF with new overlay LCD, can be ordered with alternate screens. AF illumination fix
Built-in flash with controller and support for 600EX via radio.
Improvements to auto ISO and the ability to set desired min-max apertures and/or shutter speeds. Presets allowing selection of between 1/FL and 1/4*FL.
HDR II with more accurate alignment and options to allow user to tweak parameters for more natural look.
2,3,5,7 shot options for AEB
Improved in camera RAW processing and superior jpg output
Improvement in sealing over 7D
Most other features same as 5D III
$2999. This is essentially the 1D IV replacement in smaller form and performance will justify price.
