I collect a dozen or so eggs each day and it is amazing to have 1 or 2 with a pattern. It is unknown why eggs are speckled but they think that it may.... (a) be camouflage from predators or (b) act as a glue to make the eggs stronger or (c) help distinguish them apart so that the mother can turn and warm the eggs. It is a mystery.
