The capture was taken very late in the evening. The building what you see is the personal residence of a former Governor in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) under British rule. His name is Sir Thomas Maitland and was the governor in charge during the period of 1805-1811. Now this is a 275 room star class Hotel.

It's ironic (and quite sad) that many of the world's old buildings and palaces that we now admire were built at the expense and often suffering of the average citizens at the time.
I haven't as yet come to grips with it because I, too, admire them.

Thanks Charlie. You are quite correct. Not only the luxuries the powerful and wealthy misused at the expense of the common man but the damage they did to the forests and the wildlife was also unthinkable. In early 19the Century under western rule killing animals as a sport was popular with British wealthy citizens who lived here. Lot of wild animals including elephants were hunted during this era. One Governor has boasted killing more than 5000 elephants by himself alone.
