Well, since I had a real rough time picking a favorite from this years photos I thought I would do a runner up thread for all the shots that didn't make the cut. I can't imagine I was the only one that had a hard time with this. Feel free to contribute everyone, would love to see everyone's " Almost Best Photos".
What a cool idea. I do think #3 is the coolest, but for my vote #2 gets the almost there award. It's a nice shot, but just misses on being a really great shot.
Thanks Fred, Jim and Lukas. @ Lukas I have that shot somewhere too, where I used Landscape perspective. I really like your Alviso photo. Wonderful depth from front to back and the contrast to the golden sky just equates to awesomeness. The Yosemite shot is rather special too, fog has such a great effect on light. Thanks for sharing.
I really like the last one Dan, the backlit tree foliage just looks glorious. Thanks for sharing.
As for everyone who hasn't given their submissions yet... well let's have em, I crave more runner-ups.
I still haven't gone through all my fall photos... I am sure I have some in there that would qualify. Before fall I really didn't shoot much this year. And 3 of these might not qualify as landscape much... but its what I have without going into fall stuff. Not as talented as most here. Be kind. Or rip them apart and give tips to improve.
3 Under ground landscape. This is a frozen water fall deep inside a very large ice cave in the Mendenhall Glacier. The water fall is roughly 8 feet high to give a size relation. I went back inside this cave about 300 feet and ran out of light. It was pitch black inside there. I did a 3 minute exposure at the back end looking into the black and the tunnel showed up. It just keeps on going. I am waiting for the right conditions to make another trip back up there. http://www.pbase.com/tazman0895/image/148039536.jpg
Happy new year everybody! Ron
NIce idea Charlie, I had a similar idea but didn't act on it. Maybe a theme as in "Best of" Ocean shots, Star Shots, or locations like "Best of" Yosemite or Death Valley...
Hey Now.... wonderful additions everyone!! Thread has got a little steam now... Keep em' coming
@ daskibum: Now thats some lightning strikes.. really like the third one... intimate view of the strike. The landscape with the church has some awesome light too.
@ tazmans: The ice cave is just surreal...makes me want to find a cave in some tundra like location. The other shots are no slouch either, For Mendenhall Glacier & Auke Lake I wish I could see them larger... I find the wider then angle the larger the picture needs to be viewed.
@ dberhens : I like all three, the falling sand inside the first one makes the photo.... is this Lower Antelope Canyon? Waterfall in the last is really nice... so many layers.
Zeph those are some serious runner ups.... I think number three is my favorite of the bunch.. those bright purpley pink clouds are just awesome. Thanks for sharing. Hope to see some more runner ups, So many excellent submissions already.
