p.17 #1 · Canon Winter photography

This has been my worst winter yet, from the photography standpoint.
Relatively low temperatures combined with brisk winds, as well as unfavourable ice formation pattern on the lake, have resulted in a dearth of available species for photography, and shooting some wretched flatland landscape covered with white $hit is not my cuppa tea any longer.

Imagine how pathetic the situation has been when this picture I consider to be one of my best photography efforts this winter.

You must have had IS turned on for that shot. Opps you used the 16-35 no IS there I thought you used a big white.

Now if you used a 24-70L you could go out into the elements and shoot more often.

But when I say 24-70L I mean MKI as it has that beautiful big hood that keeps the elements of weather off of the front element.

The MKII well its hood is so small, oh well no bad elemnts here today I think I will go out and shoot some shots with the MKII.

Played with the TS-E17L yesterday on the 1DsIII. The knobs are small in the cold and they inforce the NO TRIPOD RULE. HDR shot.

Hey Psych, good to see that you are still amongst the living, and shooting to boot.

I couldn't agree more about this winter here in the GTA PetKal. I think I check the Weather Channel too many times only to be reminded that it's either too cold or snowing. Friday might be ok and Saturday might be a little warmer and sunny.

The cats are now running from me when I show up with a camera in my hand.

Sounds like time to spend some months in the Caribbean or the Indian Ocean.

Yes, the weather forecasts have been "partly cloudy" practically every day since late November, which has really meant one half of an hour of semi decent light per day in the best possible case.

Todd, that's another great quartet.
How long ago did you spot the Edsel in that setting?

Mine just arrived at the door this afternoon! I got out for a half hour before sunset (which was a fizzle), and had some fun with a derelict house. Using a tripod, btw.

Ooh, a fixer-upper!

On second thought, maybe not.

The photograph was taken in a tiny, rural Montana town a few weeks ago after a pretty good snowfall. Old cars such as that Edsel dot the rural Montana landscape everywhere. They're not too hard to find. As for this one, I stumbled onto it after a photo "walk" on my own the morning after the storm.
