p.22 #1 · Best Alt Images, EVER! (before we all die)

Everyone,

Do what you will with the thread. Nobody "owns" a thread around here.

I've made an effort to bring people together (was it obvious, or not?) and to bring some levity and camaraderie back to this area of FM.

I have failed, apparently. I am OK with that. This thread has taught me one thing, at least; why so many of the previous members have declined the invitation to participate.

I do, however, wish you all a wonderful Holiday Season, and all the best in the future. It will likely be quite some time before I return, if ever. For many of you, this will surely come as a relief. All the best to you as well.

Nah, it's always been full of strong opinions. I don't think there's more negativity here now, although there are a lot more people. It's not individual people that turn me off; it's the mass of people. It's difficult to keep up with all the posts. Miss a day and the forum looks different with 30 new threads. Thus the forum is less personal and "cozy" IMHO. It used to be that you could go to work, come home, load up the forums, and have everything be somewhat in the same location with a manageable amount of new content. It's not like "coming back home" anymore. Maybe you feel similarly?

Paul, no worries. I'm glad you're back. It's always good to "see" familiar faces. I'm sure you PM'd more than a few people to draw them to this thread. It's worked well. Good topic, good to see a mix of "personal favourites" (what pdm paul calls "recycled"). Even if they're not the best, they're people's favourites, otherwise they wouldn't post them again. And there's a healthy mix of new stuff too. Although I was hoping people would be a bit more selective with batches of photos. But whatever, it's all good.

Yeah, that was my first guess. Then I thought water reflection? It's got me stumped. I hope there's a specific technique here that I can duplicate.

I've always followed the "Treat others like as you would like them to treat you" way of thinking.
Cherish the freedoms you have, fight to protect them if necessary, and if possible extend those freedoms to others worse off than you.

I love those FL 55/1.2 landscapes sebboh, what aperture were they shot at? I need to use mine more, I have too many lenses I want to use that I end up neglecting too many.

Hope to see you back Paul, have a safe and prosperous new year. Peace.

the golden rule sounds good to me.

those landscapes were all taken at f/5.6 on an old 4/3 slr. i haven't been using my FL 55/1.2 all that much lately myself. even though it's not as sharp, i find my rokkor 58/1.2 to be a more versatile lens. was considering selling the canon since i don't use it much and it's somewhat rare in alpha mount.

Wow, this thread exploded since i went to bed last night. I think i'll stay out of gun control sub-thread as that seems like a fast track way of losing "friends". So a pic. Nothing as amazing as most i see posted here though. Samyang 85mm, Kenko Tubes:

Sounds good to me, but it is a bit short on the kinds of detail we are up in arms (har har) about

Nothing else follows, that is exactly where everyone is disagreeing. The details are the hard part to get right. Everyone can agree about the nice-sounding high-level stuff.

Anyway, I have lost my interest in this discussion and will not participate further.

Bring on the images.

On topic - let this thread die. 12/21/12 is almost over and the world is still in one piece At best, this was just another thread of recycled alt images, mostly not the best. Mine included, but then they were mostly meant to ad a little fun to the subject. Now it gone to guns

cogitech wrote:
I invited you specifically to the thread in an act of good faith.

Perhaps the gun issue needs to be put to rest, but there is no good reason for the thread to die, or for anyone to belittle the series of fantastic images posted so far.

This is exactly the type of animosity that I am puzzled by around here... It just wasn't like this before.

What happened to you Paul? And so many others? Why so negative?

I just don't get it. Is this community just too large now?

I think it's you who have changed. It's always been like this at FM or very close anyway. And that's NOT to say that it's bad either. You used to make sparse digs seemingly with a grin and move on. But lately you seem to be taking everything MUCH more seriously as if it were some life and death concern. You did it to me recently too. Deleted all your posts from the entire thread just cuz I said the name Samyang was stupid. You're doing the same now again with pdmphoto. I mean how many times in the past has someone said "let the thread die" when it got off topic? That's like a regular thing here. Maybe about once every three or four weeks for the past 4 years... but it's just now this troubling to you?

Has your diet changed recently? Are you going thru something at home?

Whatever it is I kinda feel sorry for ya. It doesn't upset me or anything, but I'm kinda puzzled by the change.

Hi Paul,

I hope you read this, I think you did bring some levity and camaraderie back--at least for me, and although no doubt some didn't accept your invitation I saw some posts from some people I hadn't seen post in a long time and it was fun. I have missed you around here and was glad to see you participating so fully in a thread. Sure the thread went off track with the gun control thing, but that is the issue of the day with the shooting in Connecticut, and there are very strong feelings on both sides such that it is a hard topic on which to have a cordial conversation. Still I really enjoyed this thread and thank you for starting it. I hope you have a wonderful Holiday Season and all the best. In my book the place is better when you participate, so I hope you do, and please ignore BIF. I don't know what was up with his last post, but I couldn't really disagree with him more.
