Haha, I did sort of the same to a Pro (e) Photo constant light box last week, After reading reviews of newer Westcotts not holding up (check Amazon), I figured why not. I didn't have to build a tripod mount, I left the ring (for the rods and tripod mount) and cut out the plastic back and just built a mount for the flash to set at the right height and into the box. Total time 1.5 hours, totally tiltable and functional and I have two more I can do this too. Great idea for saving money.
