argh, so one of the locals wasn't wearing camo while shooting there...
anyway, I chopped back some branches this summer that should expand the location a little or allow two shooters to fit.
Excellent. I was contemplating a late night commando pruning raid next year. Maybe we should also write to RA and ask them to consider removing that derelict teevee stand. No one uses it and the only thing it accomplishes in getting in the way of photographers.
something from Road America's Fall Vintage event in 2015, usually the last bigger event on their calendar. Two weeks from now we'll have another season behind us...
Bump this thread. Took a lot of shots to get this because of the cycling of the lights. Most of my shots have only one taillight lit, or both dark!! Very frustrating. Patience paid off.
More night action from the Petit Le Mans. Robert Alon got the last corner totally wrong late in the race and his Lexus looked decidedly second hand after pummeling the tire barriers at high speed.
I was just walking to that area when I saw the fire. Only got the aftermath. There was one photog standing just above the wreck to the right and totally oblivious to what had happened. He missed the fire too!!
I had the opportunity to spend the day at Circuit of the Americas on F1 qualifying day...
This motorsport photography thing is a different animal than shooting airplanes that I normally do, I was really challenged by the views, and the movement of the cars, too many changes in speed and direction!
Here's a small offering....thoughts on my efforts would be appreciated.
The Prototype Challenge class was never a favorite of mine being a spec class born in the waning ALMS days as field fillers. With the open type P1 and P2 cars now gone, these were the last open top racers in sportscar racing. I will miss being able to see the drivers at work.
Ahhh seeing all the racing photos has me looking at my calendar...
Historics at Daytona this coming weekend! Anyone going? Also I'm counting down the days to January for the Rolex 24. Anyone planning on going to the Roar before the 24? I usually always do living here in Orlando as its a great kick off to racing season!
Oh and here's a little peek at this past weekend for me....just a teaser.
1967 Shelby GT500 "Eleanor" Replica
Probably the sickest Nissan 240 I've ever seen. Has a full RB26 conversion and then some.
During the summer of 1970 I was a 19-year-old private stationed at Ft. Devens, MA, and proud owner of a brand-spanking new black body Nikkormat Ft with a 50/2. About $240 out the door of Crimson Camera, across the street from Harvard Yard--not an inconsequential investment when you're making $120 a month. My first big outing with it was an NHRA points meet at New England Dragway in Epping, New Hampshire.
Among the big names in attendance was the great Shirley Muldowney. She was still running her twin engine AA/Gas dragster then, and I got the pic below on the return road after a run. It was a year or so later, I think, when she joined the fuel ranks with a funny car.
I really had no clue what I was doing. I took a ton of shots on the return road, but focusing on a moving object baffled me, so I focused on a spot in the road, held the camera on that spot, and waiting for something to move into the viewfinder. About 90 percent of the return road pics were movement blurred and boy was I bummed when I got the slides back. A tough lesson learned.
