p.1 #2 · Why are active threads suddenly archived and locked?
Mortyb,
hmmm, good question. Since my pictures are the last ones posted, perhaps it has something to do with how pornographic they are  Seriously, it beats me why the thread got locked. I just PM'd Fred to ask him why.

No doubt your shots are over the top.
This has happened to a few other threads too, for instance the Kodak SLR Image Thread. It's pointless (from a user's persective) and a hassle to have several threads with the same topic/content.

Perhaps 50 page show and tell threads are consider inappropriate in a hardware forum. They may be more appropriate in the presentation forums. It could also be that multi-page threads begin to affect the forum's performance at some point. I'm just speculating.
I would suggest, though, that if you want to know the correct answer, you should ask Fred.

PM'd Fred, Dan. Haven't heard back. You may be right, however, that it may be that it's a hardware forum and not a presentation forum, although Curtis Grindahl's MF sub-board is clearly hardware based: only Nikon MF lenses and only on Nikon cameras. I'll post back when Fred responds. Sure does seem strange
Edit: although on further scrutiny the thread itself is listed as a "Fuji X100 Images Thread" Strange indeed

Mortyb,
got a response from Fred in which he said that the thread was automatically archived
"Hi Anthony,
This is an archived thread. When a inactive and older threads get automatically archived. (See year 2011 next to the subject line)
Best,
Fred"
I asked for a clarification of that, and haven't yet heard back
p.1 #9 · Why are active threads suddenly archived and locked?
Anthony, thanks for the update. But the thread was only a month old, it wasn't 2011 at all. I've seen threads that have been dead for 6+ monhts, and suddenly someone posts in it.
p.1 #15 · Why are active threads suddenly archived and locked?
yeah, I don't understand it at all, even with Fred's explanation. If the thread started May 08, 2011, and the last post was on or about Nov 9, 2012 (just a bit over a month ago), I don't see how it could be that it has been inactive for more than 3 months, but then I'm probably missing the obvious, whatever it is
Oh well, it is what it is. I reckon there's no reason another Fuji X100 Images Thread can't be started.
p.1 #16 · Why are active threads suddenly archived and locked?
Of course, but then you'll have 100 threads with basically the same content. "Hey guys, took my SLR/c out for the first time in 4 months, sorry I have to create another "Kodak SLR Images Thread" instead of posting in the original, long and AWESOME Kodak thread, but I guess 15 different threads with a few Kodak Images in each is really nice for the usability!"
p.1 #18 · Why are active threads suddenly archived and locked?
Hehe, honestly I don't give a crap, and I'm sure there are some hardware reasons for this solution, but from my pov, it's stupid. At least the thread should stay active for 6 months or a year before it got archived and locked.

If you "don't give a crap", why are you posting this here?
As FM members already know, I'm always improving the code mostly based on feedback and requests posted here. If you would like to contribute with constructive feedback in a respectful manner, I'm all ears.
p.1 #20 · Why are active threads suddenly archived and locked?
There are reasons for archiving threads. We have over a million threads and without the archiving code, the entire site would slowdown considerably.
I was wrong about the "3-months" given to Anthony. This was written many years ago and I had forgotten the exact numbers.
I did a little researching and saw that the archiving code works like this:
[when topic creation is older than $given_archive_age and the newest message is older than 10 days]
So, if the "originated" post is older than the $given_archive_age AND the thread is not replied for 10 days after all this time, it gets archived.
