I've not used the Z7II at all, but with the Z9, speed is all there and more, but your accuracy depends on which, of the long list of AF options you choose to use to focus with.
Based on almost a year of use (300,000+ exposures) with my Z9, I find that the AF tech in the Z9 is at it's very best with subjects with good light, and with 1-2 subjects moving in them. Utterly amazing. However, the Nikon D4S, D5, D6, are better at handling scenes with complex/multiple subjects in them.

Thanks for sharing! I guess I may just bite the bullet and get a z9.
I own the Z9 along with the 200mm 2.0 GVRII. The focus accuracy and speed are on par with my old D850/F5. It’s as fast and sure as my 70-200 2.8S. The only benefit the native lens has is the VR system feels like you’re on a tripod, due to the in body and lens VR working in tandem.
The 300mm 2.8G VRII is also stellar.

that's super promising - now i just need to shake out enough for a z9 lol.
Following with the kids motive. the 200mm f2 is a favorite of mine for my kids activities. I once ventured into wildlife, but it is often too short for my skills and opportunities.

Chased the cats today with the D850, 200mm f2.0 ai, TC-16A, and a 20mm extension to lower the MFD. Oscar was the least impressed, and managed to open his eyes a couple times plus cock a "I hear you" ear. All at f2-f2.8 & ISO 2500
This is Marnie with the D850 and the 200mm f2, TC-16A, and 20mm extension. She likes to sleep in a dark corner and I am amazed how well the D850 did - even underexposing about 1.5 stops.
