And then my granddaughter pulled this one off. They don't allow them to use their heads to contact the ball in this age group, she had connected with her chest instead.
Great to see people still posting pictures from this lens! I felt like the 105mm sucked the oxygen out of the room for a while but happy to see this thread alive and well. I'll have to post some here in the next day or so.
Just curious how Nikon produces a $6,000 lens and then stops making a $150 dollar part while the lens was still current?! I ended up lucking out today after 18 months of searching, and ordered one off Flebay today from England!
I intend to keep a 10 stop screwed into the second Holder, and the current process of focusing with the clear filter, pulling the filter out, unscrewing/screwing back in and taking pictures was impractical. Just irritated. P.S. Nikon emailed me back today saying the part is likely no longer in production.
"Dear Mr. Freeman,
Thank you for calling Nikon. I just wanted to follow up with you and let you know, after researching, it is likely that this product is no longer being produced but we cannot say for sure.
If you have any other questions please give us a call at 1-800-NIKON-US.

I just want to make sure I clearly understand this situation...Nikon no longer makes the filter for the current Version II of this lens?? I have Version I of this lens...so I would not be surprised if I needed a part and Nikon told me they no longer have/provide additional parts for my lens.
Correct, I have the VRII of the lens... and the part is no longer made. If not more ironic, they had the VRI part in stock two months ago... and listed the VRII as out of stock, so apparently parts are more available for your lens than mine... stupid.

I love my 24 1,4 and tomorrow i'm getting my D850 with 105 1,4. After I got it I will test 24 1,4 with high resolution camera like D850 and see how its perform. Personaly I don't think it will struggle but I still wanna test it.
Never had 28mm lenses before but i guess I will rent for one day a new 28 1,4 and then decide if I will trade 24 for 28.
It's not just the drop in filter holder for this lens, which took a long time for me too until I found one. I also looked high and low until I finally found one for my 200-400 f/4 VR2 lens, and even then it's a white one, not black. Nikon's handling of accessories in general stinks.
BTW. How do you find teleconverters on the 200 f2?
I have mixed results with TC14EIII on my VRI. Sometimes it is OK, but more often I get just soft result with significant halo around edges. Especially when shooting contrast things, like seagulls.

My new filter Holder (where I was going to permanently keep a 10 stop)... arrived from England this week. Arrived in the correct box, but definately the wrong Holder! Seriously annoyed. Back on the hunt for a second drop in holder!
