Finally pulled my strobes out after the move to shoot my first high school game of the season for MaxPreps. I won't say I am rusty, but after the double overtime in Boulder the night before, I was totally wiped out. I got to the gym and realized I left my pocket wizard trigger wires at home and had to run back to get them. Had enough time before the game to get an initial test, but was not happy. I used my standard reflectors and should have used my sports reflectors. Should have brought a light stand to get one strobe a little higher, and had a hard time locking focus due to tiredness and the super dark cave. Had WB issues to as the strobes were not totally overcoming the ambient. The spread of the standard reflectors and the hight I could get them in this gym was not ideal. But, anyway, here we go....All of these are the 1D MKII with either the 24-70 or 70-200 and two AB800's. These have extra processing for my website.
Carl nice to see you posting more and more!! Images look much better after the first 2. #1 doesn't have the same look as the rest #2 looks a tad OOF. After that they look pretty good!! And dialed in!
2 could be a tad oof....I was really struggling in this gym even with the 1D focusing. 1st one my in camera setting for WB was way off, and I could not get a good look in Aperture for it. Second shot, could be combination of OOF or ambient creeping in...I repointed my strobe a tad soon after that shot and that seemed to help.
It is kinda nice posting more....but I would rather be shooting more (and making money more)
To me they all seem a bit over sharpened or you went a little crazy with the clarity slider in LR. Maybe its just my monitor, but thats what im seeing.
basehohonda,
Don't use Lightroom, but as I said in my initial post, these have extra processing for my website. I started doing this look with hoops photos when I was shooting in Alaska. Kids loved the look and I ended up with a lot of senior photo clients coming from it. These are images directly from my website, so they have that clarity look to them. They might be a tad over sharp. I used Max's action to resize them, and might have to tweak the sharpening a bit.
This is a shot from last year with the same processing. However, the strobes were a lot higher, with the sports reflectors on, and I shot the gym for 6 years and know it very well....
Carl, The first time I looked at these, I really didn't like them with the PP. But the more I look at them, they almost have a HDR look to them. It is growing on me.
