If I can name one thing on my wish list for Christmas it would be Olympus updating the firmware to add exposure compensation in (M)anual mode using auto-ISO.
Is there a way to get the focus assist (magnification) with manual focus when using a non-m4/3 lens via adapter? If not, I'd like to see that in a firmware update (I have no idea if that would be possible).

Sure, but you have to program a button to do it. It won't automatically magnify a MF lens when you change the focus position the way electronic lenses can. Also, the "halfway-is-with-ris" (or somesuch nonsense name) option is desirable, to keep the IS running when the shutter release is half pressed.
Ernie, details on setting up smaller focus target on a button are here: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1144967/0
Not only is this useful with manual focus lenses, but also with native auto focus lenses - when you need a smaller target for better selectivity, a single button tap recalls the last target size you used (always the smallest, in my case.) I use this a lot - and I really hope they don't change it 'cause I like it like this
Thanks for that, Cal! I can see that it's going to be a non-trivial undertaking to learn the ins-and-outs and quirks of the OM-D. I've ordered David Busch's book; I don't know if that will be going into the same kinds of details your linked thread (which I've bookmarked) does...
What a great camera - and what great lenses are available.
