Not having as many peripheral AF points would not be crippling in my mind but the quality of the AF has to at least match the 5D3 in AF speed, accuracy, and tracking. I think it would be insane to give a general purpose body better AF then a body designed for high FPS action.
I am focal length limited so have an interest in a 7D II type camera
the only spec that matters is if the 7D noise is reduced enough in the 7D II
if not; the rest of the specs do not matter

This is what really matters. Unless they come up with a new sensor, which I don't see in these fantasy specs, nothing else matters. What is killing Canon is noise, they need better sensors.

Huh, based on people on this forum/thread it sounds like AF is the killer. It'll be 'crippled' unless the AF is better than the 5D3
I could certainly use more detail in my 7D shots with less effort in PP to get there. My personal opinion on the 7DII is that it would be great if they did a general update on the camera, make things incrementally better. Maybe add the wifi/GPS to the system and update with some of the new tech. If they can get a better sensor into the cam and keep the price reasonable that would be great as well.
