p.1 #1 · Zion High Country - Late October

Another group of photographs from the Zion NP high country shot on a late-October day while passing through on the way to other places further east in Utah. Enjoy!

They are all nice, the trees in first are magical.
Keep on the good work.

Dan,

Nice set. Really like the intimate landscapes. My favorites are 3 and 4.

Nice set Dan. Love the details. 3 and 4 are my FAV'S here with 4 leading. A simple yet well photographed subject.

Hurrah for #3!
The first picture I can remember seeing that doesn't attempt to emphasize that scrawny tree perched atop the rock.

Thanks, all. Greg, something tells me that you have also looked at this little feature a few times, too! It is hard to not focus on that tree, given that we've all seen (and, OK, I admit it, produced) so many "little tree on rock" photographs.

My friend Charlie refers to these as "brave little tree" photographs. Sorta' like the foreground tree in #1... ;-) But, heck, there is something compelling about those, too, when they are done well.

In this take on this feature I intentionally deemphasized that "brave little tree" by shooting from a slightly different angle, including a very large amount of the lighter foreground rocks, and "burying" that tree very close to the top of the frame against a background of... other trees!

Of course now that we've mentioned it, I suppose we're headed down that path of emphasizing it once again!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Dan
