I felt that since I was adding my opinion to other people's poster and print designs, I should offer some of my designs up for critique.
A few Hockey samples. I used my domain URL as a design element on the digital versions/online proofs since they would ultimately up on Facebook anyways. lol
This is pretty boring.... BUT... they look awesome printed. The track that I shoot at asked me to put together three 10 foot by 12 foot banners that showcased the cars. The race track owners dictated the text, but the images and how I cropped them was up to me. This is one of them.
This is an 18x24 print that's going to be a Christmas present to the player in the shot. The client dictated the text. I delivered it yesterday and they were thrilled.
The volleyball boosters wanted to do a large 1:2 banner for the gym, but on a very tight budget, so I did a single team shot with some basic work added. Not only did I sell the huge banner, but I sold a ton of 8x16 and 10x20 prints. Wish every job was like this one!
Anybody wonder why I was so happy that scott weighed in with comments and thoughts on my poster design. See samples above. Only problem is now that I have seen his work, I have burned my copy of PhotoShop and have to start over again.
Awesome stuff here Scott. Thanks for the inspiration.
Scott: Sweet, especially the hockey and the volleyball team poster. Thanks for posting! Of course now their is just one more thing not to be thankful for on Thursday, my creativity, or lack of!
Thanks guys! I appreciate it! As for #3, that was one of the shots that I took for his Senior Portraits, and I liked it so much that I made it into a poster. I went with a movie poster theme and added text that meant something to them - 'Story By' was his mom, 'In Association with' the booster club, and 'Special Appearance by' his sister - we took a few shots of him with his sister during the shoot. Just something fun.
Question about your fonts: are you playing with the kerning in PS to bring the letters close together or are the fonts naturally printing that closely together? Am I making any sense?
I still use PSE4 and have yet to find a font that prints with the letters close together like that.
Thanks Dennis. I'm always messing with the kerning/spacing of fonts. For example the name and date font in the hockey prints are about -50 (if I remember correctly). I've never used Elements, so I'm not sure what options you have or don't have, but it sounds like you can't set the spacing you want. There are times when I'll set the kerning/spacing between two specific letters (or numbers) that will be different from the rest of the word.
