p.1 #1 · Ecuador V

Stick insect:

Dolichodopid fly:

Aposematic seed beetle:
Similarly patterned seeds were found in the area

Glass frog (Centrolene sp.):

Shield bug:

Camouflaged mossy stick insect:

If it looks like a mosquito, flies like a mosquito and buzzes like a mosquito, well, it's obviously a Cranefly (Limonia sp.):

portrait:

Caterpillar with deterrent:
A beautiful caterpillar with shades of purple. The posterior end is actually a retractable stinger which emerges when it is disturbed. The fine hair-like spines also exude a white caustic substance.

Thanks for looking and commenting,
Paul

Thanks everyone! Due to the changes in elevation and consequent variety of micro-climates found in the Andes, the cloud rainforests can be one of the most diverse habitats sometimes even more so than the lowland jungles of the Amazon.
