Took a few shots of my sisters pets,these are the 2 she chose to have printed.V tricky to do,the dogs wouldnt keep still for long and the black really soaks up the light.

Nope to 3 and 4. To me they have far too much white space around them. They might be better if you cropped in on them to reduce it, but I am still not sure they would be better that the first two.
As portraits I far prefer the first two. Great color and light, good head poses, and (most importantly) BOTH the nose and the eyes are in focus. The ONLY thing that makes me like #2 more than the first shot is the lack of a defined highlight in the eyes on the first one.
I would definately eliminate one of the two bright highlights in the left-side eye on the the #2 shot.
