I noticed that I can't review my pictures when I use a remote cable on my D4. (If I press the play button nothing happends.) I use a cheap Chinese cable so this might be the problem. (However there was no problem with my D300s.) Anyone of you knows if the (cheap) remote is the reason for this or is it normal that the play button does not work when using a remote cable control?
Is it the kind with a switch? My d700 would do the same thing if the switch was in one position. I believe the switch is for bulb mode... as soon as I switched it to the other position all was well.
Happens with the D3 as well. When a cable is controlling the camera, playback is disabled until the cable is physically removed.
It's not the cable, it's the firmware.
This has been a "feature" of Nikons for several years now. I'm currently using the Pocket Wizard camera cable. It has a switch on it to keep the camera awake, but in this mode the playback doesn't work.
Same thing with an IR trigger that I use.
If someone had figured a work around to this I'd like to hear it as well.
