p.1 #3 · Zeiss 15mm f2.8 And 135mm f2.0 MTF Mount Lenses Announced
DPR have this wrong, these are fabulous new full frame ZE/ZF lenses; no one in their right mind would use them on a tiny sensor, any more than they would strap a rocket engine on a car - apart from the guy who was a Darwin Award finalist for those who have seen the hilarious movie.
This may be a nod to Sony users and other forthcoming full frame cameras from other manufacturers - now (a99, a850/900) and in the next period of development (Pentax).
If so, it's very welcome as an alternative to Leitax. The only other recent m42 lenses were from memory, the 25/2.8, 1-2 more, 35/2 perhaps?

Applaud Zeiss for sticking with the M42 mount. Its too bad the first 25/2.8 isn't being pushed anymore on the mount. I considered at one point getting the M42 version. These will be great lenses (albeit quite large) for when the FF mirrorless bodies are finally released.

M42 is a convenient (if limited) way around the possible contractual deal with Sony that douglas and edward used to mention a bit. If, if CZ are prepared to do this with the latest and greatest in the line, they may release 'back catalog' lenses as versions of some or all of the remainder of the ZE/F line.
I also imagine they would be keen to ensure that the new high end lenses, commencing with the Distagon 55/1.4 are made available to non C/N users in the future - these are expected late 2013 from memory. It makes no sense to deprive say, Sony users of such lenses, which will have no direct ZA equivalent - not that many ZE/F lenses do anyway - no ZA 21/2.8 for instance. Best would be dedicated A mount releases, of course, the a99 is excellent for manual focus lenses despite being a video/stills hybrid with a new AF system.
The significance of this move would be large - it would broaden penetration to other emerging and developing FF brands, and it would entrench CZ as the agnostic provider of their own high end, non contractual (e.g.ZA) optics, potentially to all full frame users - as it should in a maturing marketplace of high end DSLRs, growing away from a duopoly of old established participants.
All these lenses are high end and volumes will be small - and every sale counts.
