I'd take the Nikon too just for the resale value =D

Still nothing in stock at B+H, Adorama, Amazon and no Nikon-mount on eBay

I would follow the Monkey's assessment of the two lenses and take the Siggy. He is the only knowledgeable source I have read who actually has had both and given the reasons why the Siggy is a better lens.

I have the Nikon 35mm 1.4G which is also tack sharp and every f-stop after micro-adjustment. The price difference for use lens and the new Sigma doesn't make it worth selling, but if I was buying a new one I'd get the Sigma like everyone is saying. My only concern about Sigma is actual price depreciation. I bought two Sigma lenses for my NEX and after a year there were those 50% of what I bought them for all my Nikon lenses don't have anywhere near that depreciation. If a new Sigma is introduced I will definitely wait six months or so to pick it up. I think it's great that Sigma is helping to reduce our costs!

Are you guys that already have them just preordering and waiting for them to come in? I haven't put my name on any lists, but its starting to look like a good idea at this point. I missed one locally by a day.

Seems like it. I pre-ordered mine when Fred posted that the Canon version became available and got it around the middle of December. I think after that first batch it went out of stock again.

I absolutely love this lens and I have shot with the Nikon several times, and I even fought it because I loved the Nikon version. I am a huge Nikon fan and believe Nikon makes the best lenses out there, but it is cool to see a company finally put out an alternative for those that cant afford the price of the Nikon glass. Sigma had always had flaws in their lenses, which really haunted them and made the price justifiable. This lens is different. Check out my review...

"Sigma had always had flaws in their lenses, which really haunted them and made the price justifiable."

Flaws make the price justifiable? Unless you need to actually use it. And what would make you think anything is different now? Just because the lens is sharp it is now better? I am happy to say that after more than 325,000 images I have never had a Nikkor fail. That to me is well worth the extra money. But I can understand why anyone would be tempted to get something "better" at 1/2 the price.

Sigma made a press release at around the time of release of this lens stating they were making a marked effort to improve quality.

All reviews have said this lens is very well built. Optically it is being reported to out perform the Nikon/Canon and Zeiss alternatives.

This is "better", through many justifications of the word, than the Nikon/Canon offerings and etc...

In my experience, Nikkors are little or no better than any other brand with regard to QC. I've had 2 pro Nikkor zooms fail (motor squeak and zoom ring binding) and one pro 1.4 prime had to be returned for AF trouble. Buy/use enough lenses and you will run into problems with all manufacturers. Of the 40 or so lenses I've owned (~25 Nikkor, ~15 3rd party), I've had problems with 5 of them, and 3 of those were Nikkors.

If you haven't had problems with Nikon glass yet, you've just been lucky, or possibly not paying attention.

Ditto.

My 17-35 had the crazy AF squeek and Nikon says thats normal... I thought the S in AFS meant silent... i guess it means squeek...

damn right they did. Actually it was being sold by 47th Street Photo via Amazon. I was getting ready to place the order last night but for some reason I got sidetracked and when I came back, all of them are gone. I'm kicking myself!

I had checked all US dealer website, it stated 1 years warranty. someone told me he got 4 years warranty. so which one was correct? (Only adorama says 4 years, others show 1 year)

According to B&H, these will be more readily available for Nikon next week. That's what I was told when I called. Supposedly the Sigma rep was there at the time.

I just checked the contents of the box and all it has is the international warranty stuff, nothing related to Sigma Corporation of America (Sigma USA).

However, if you go to Sigma USA's warranty registration website, it states that registering your lens will extend the warranty another 3 years (the page says 3 years for EX lenses, I'm assuming they haven't updated the language and that these new "A" series lenses are included).

I did it and got a confirmation email.

I find it interesting that those with big whiskers who have one are rubbing it in, while those of us waiting for the little brown truck are growing impatient.

As my grandmother used to say, "good things come to those who wait".

Will, if you post one more amazing photo shot at 1.4, I'll shut off my computer until I can post one right back.

You lucky dog....
