Nikon has announced the D5200, a new DX-format DSLR camera that improves on the D5100 by offering a 24.1 MP CMOS sensor, a new EXPEED 3 image processor, ISO range of 100-6400 which is extendable to 25600, a side-articulated 3.0" tilt/swivel LCD , Fulll 1080p HD movies, 5fps burst shooting, 39-point AF system, 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor, the Scene Recognition System and a new generation GUI Design.

I'm anxious to see if they've improved the noise performance of this sensor. I just purchased a d5100 a couple of weeks ago and it's a pretty sweet little camera.
They've significantly upgraded the d5200 AF module. The d5100 uses the multi-cam 1000 AF module. IIRC, the d7000 uses the multi-cam 4800 module. Wow, that's a pretty significant upgrade, IMO. I am going to track the reviews on this one very closely.
The specs make it seem very close to the D7000- only things that aren't present are a battery grip (5100 didn't have a native one) and a second command dial. The 39 AF points and the 5fps were all features found on the D7000.
I'm with lou f- with the improved capability of the 5200 it makes sense that a D300s/7000 replacement would be pretty close to a Pro DX body.
