I am keeping my D800e but I use my D3s and D4 much more. When Nikon brings out a 45Mp D900e I won't be first in line because 12/16 Mp is just fine for most everything I do and I am addicted to 9/10 fps.
I have one D800E and two D800 bodies. I'll start moving to an all-E setup soon, because I'll take any advantage the camera can give me in getting the best shots possible. I have not found moire to be a problem for my style of shooting, which was a concern at first.
I have had no problems with my D800 bodies. They perform fantastically well. The files are gorgeous. The build is great. No complaints whatsoever.
I would change strategy if Nikon comes out with an 8-fps 24MP D400 using the D3200 sensor in a D800 body. Then, I'd probably keep one D800E and get three D400's for my action shooting. But for now, the D800 and D800E bodies are the perfect compromise for me.
I returned a recently purchased D800E because of poor phase detect AF reliability/ accuracy and the much worse than expected Live View interpolation issue (which is really frustrating in use with manual focus). I suspect this is one camera we will eventually see an "S" version of which, at the very least, addresses the Live View issue.
It would be nice if all of these issues were fixed by a firmware update, but I don't remember Nikon ever making any significant changes with their firmware over the course of a product lifetime.
Thom's article about the ill-thought menu banks, exposure meter, live view and a few other things were quite interesting and quite frustrating to read about.
i am selling my *00 now with less tha 100 clicks. Why ? I just dont use it. I think the mp count is too much for me and I will go back to a d3s or d3x. or even a d700.
btw if you are interested at 2675.00 for my d800 new usa just look me up in Buy and sell

I shoot a lot on a tripod and the worthless line skipped fake live view is a deal breaker for me. I spent a lot of money renting the D800E and new Zeiss 15 to shoot the fall colors this weekend and didn't get one goddamn shot because I don't have the vision to focus a lens that wide without live view zoom. I am furious.
I bet I could shoot all day with a 15mm and never even look thru the viewfinder, wow!!!
Might need something to calm yourself down there mate
Used my Uncle's D800E + 24-70 2.8 this weekend. Compared to my D90...I don't know you would sell/return it haha. But it's a blast to use but I still can not see myself spending so much on that 'E' body. It's trully a fabulous camera but it does hurt the pockets.
I believe another thing some people don't understand are the raw files or just jpeg (fine) files. IIRC, only 120 or so pictures can be taken on a 4gb memory card haha. That will rack up all the memory in your computer if one does not have the proper memory storage.
Thang. It sounded kind of out there when you said the Canon setup would pulverize the Nikon, so I checked out your www to see your work. I don't know what is better or pretty much anything about long reach lenses, but your work is seriously outstanding!
here's a guy with a Picasa Web Album that 'puliverizes' every nature photog site I've seen in a while...
so maybe it's not the website host, or the brand of camera
Thanks for the head up!

hehehe slap on the TC and we'll talk lol
The 1d4 with 2xtciii and 600 IS II completely pulverized either the d800/d4 with 600 VR and 2etc III. yes, talking from having shoot both.
No argument from me...Nikon's TC20EIII is no match for Canon's. The 1.4x is much closer though.
I also agree in most cases Canon's superteles are slightly superior to Nikon's, but Nikon sensors more than make up for any difference IMO. Since I picked up a D800, my 1D4+800L combo has been sitting on the shelf.
If I end up selling my D800, it will be because the lenses I use most (35 1.4, 85) are a disappointment to me. My 35 is going back because the AF is completely unusable in darker situations. Totally, utterly inaccurate. The 85 1.8g has good af but boring bokeh.
I have a D800 that I will sell eventually. Right now I have both 800 and 800E. I bought the 800 while waiting for the 800E as there was not clear timing on the 800E and wanted 2 Nikon bodies anyway in my switch from Canon back to Nikon.
I will sell or trade my D800 if/when - D300 replacement comes out and offers over 16MP with good IQ and frame rate better than crop mode on D800. 20MP at 8FPS would be ideal, or I can get a great trade for a D4 with someone local who wants the resolution of a D800 for their work and doesn't need the frame rate.
I would not sell the D800E - outstanding landscape camera!!
