I used the Tokina 17mm 3.5 RMC lens I have had for several years. Hopefully someday I can upgrade to a 16-35mm - even though I am in no hurry.
Here is one more - the first shot I took with my D700 last week..

I see you are in Oregon, will you be shooting the witches hat any time soon? This was my families favorite when we visited our family in Medford! I loved Oregon, one week was to fast, one day was enough to want to moved there!

Thanks!
A-R, You mean down in Bandon/Samuel Boardman area? I shall be down there probably at some point in the next few months - after all the fall colors has passed.

I was wondering if I was crazy to buy one of the last ever new D700's available in the UK (just this week)
But I figured that I was very happy with my current D700 and I didnt feel that the D600 or D800 offered anything that really grabbed my interest, so I committed to another old faithful
I'm also happy about being able to use the same batteries and cards with 2 cameras.

I've had my D700 for almost 4 years. No real urge to upgrade. Perhaps my only complaint of the D700 is the lack of a quiet shutter mode. Even when offered on other models, it is not one of Nikon's better implemented features.

It is funny, because compared to the 1Ds, the D700 shutter is a tiny bit quieter - the F5 might be even quieter than the D700.. lol

I can see this pair lasting me a long time.
I agree. I've had my D700 for over 3 years and loved it. When the new bodies came out, I decided to look for a used 2nd D700 rather than upgrade. Since I'm not a birder or have no real need to shoot beyond 200mm, the backup D700 was a no-brainer. I can't see me buying another camera for quite a while.

I was waiting for the D800 before going full frame. Then the tsunami hit and I thought that perhaps I should pull the trigger on a D700 as the D800 may be delayed further.
No regrets.
I've recently tested and reviewed the D600 and D800 for a local magazine. Nice cameras, for sure, but I'm glad to have my D700 back in my hands!

If there was something I would change on the D700 it would be to have a 100% viewfinder and change the focus mode position or action, Ive lost a few shots from knocking that.
These are only minor things though, I very happy with my choice of camera body
I think its interesting to note how much relevant the D700 still is and how many people still love it.
Just before I bought mine I considered that it might not be long before Nikon came out with something new, but I realised that even when they do the D700 will still be a great camera.

I really love the picture of the stone building next to the sea. I've always felt that the D 700 makes the most impressive colors and images. I've also heard that it is much more forgiving that the D 800. I'm kind of waiting for the D 400, if it ever comes out as I don't blow up my pictures very much.

Thanks. To be fair, there's a decent amount of post-processing in that image, but the first thing I do in Capture NX2 is to use Neutral picture control which tends to produce a rather boring image otherwise.
One of the first things I noticed about the D700 after coming from a D300 is just how well the image holds up to color and contrast manipulation.

Dustin
Beautiful shots. I too just acquired a D700 to use in conjunction with my D300 and D200. You may want to look at getting some Nikon MF lenses. A breeze to use with the D700 & every one that I have (probably total about 12 now) are fantastic. You can pick them up fairly cheaply.
Enjoy that beautiful camera!

The only thing I wish was different on the D700 is the weight... I wish it was lighter!
I'm actually the opposite. I love the weight and the build to the D700. I have hiked and traveled all over with it. It is right in the sweet spot for me. One of the things keeping me from moving to a D600 is the differences in the build.
