Great catch Steve, it's exciting when they want to pose.

You're right Rob, and as we know that happens all too infrequently, in fact they SHUN any attention put on them. I have good luck with juvie Red-tails as their parents haven't taught them yet to be wary of people with big lenses pointed at them but adult RTs are another matter altogether. So this one was a real treasure.

Terrific shot Steve although it looks a little over sharpened
Hey, thanks for noticing that, Colin! I checked on the computer monitor at work and it DID look a tad over-sharpened. So I re-processed the original and sharpened things just a tad. I think this one looks better. Again, appreciate the critique!
Thanks Ted! I'm just glad I had the 500 f4 with me that day. Not too often one gets a chance to do a head portrait of a raptor with it, with very little cropping!

Great shot Steve, you have to love it when they give you that chance!!!

Yes Tim, I get down on my knees and thank The Photography Gods whenever a photo-op like this happens, which as we know ain't often! I was just glad I was able to pick my jaw off the ground as at the beginning I was just staring at him in open-mouthed wonder, and thinking he'd fly away at any second.
see you Saturday Hopefully we'll find something good
Lil
Ack, it took me all this time to get to your response here, Lil! And of course we DID find something good... Just wish we would've been able to get you a "sitting op" with Sigmonster, but as we said it you didn't bring it, then that's when you would have needed it...
