The 135 is a fine lens. The 100-400 really could use an update. The 400/5.6 lens is rather dead this century I just don't see that happening, but who knows.

I agree. I seriously doubt Canon will ever update the 400/5.6. An updated 100-400 would probably be too close in performance to it and be way more popular.

I think the 135/2 IS is a victim of the 70-200 IS II and the 100L IS. I don't believe Canon thinks there is enough difference there to justify the development costs.

I do not feel confused, Howard.
As far I see it, if CR copies other websites they usually name their sources. I often read other sites (later, just copying CR) who do not and "sell" their information as "their own".
But imo at least it does not matter. It is a "rumor site". Keep it as this. And let me read what I want to read. And let me decide what I take for pleasure or even serious. As long their is no announcement from Canon I do this, I take rumors for pleasure. And expecting a 1 stop less 24-70 II (in IQ) with IS at 1k $ less feels nice to me. If it does not come, my choice still will be the Tamron 2.8 with stabilizer.

You are confused (as are most CR-followers).

The things that they got "Right" are usually:
1. copied from other websites
2. just moments before the release when Canon intentionally "leaks" the information, by which time most websites already have that info.

Then there are the countless times when they just crap-shoot, remember first no DSLR at Photokina, then definitely a DLSR at Photokina? Of course you will be always right when you have your bases covered like that (or always wrong, depending how you look at it).

It's an unfounded rumor on a dumb lens.

What’s dumb about it? Canon needs a full-frame trans-standard zoom with good optical quality for the forthcoming EOS 6D, and the lens must cost a lot less to make, if not necessarily to buy, than the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM.

The rumoured lens – which you’ll be seeing shortly, so get used to it! – will fit that role perfectly.

Oh no, a dumb lens is going to come out and I don't have to buy it! What do I ever do?

They have a 24-105f/4 is that works just fine on a 5d3...

I know three copies of the 24-105. It´s a good lense so far there is no competitor.
But it does not offer comparable IQ like 70-200s.
I would love to see a 24 70 4.0 IS at the 24-70 L II IQ stopped to 4.0 (at half price) like 70-200 4.0 L IS imo offers.
I would exchange with my copy of 24-105 immediatelly.

What on earth are Canon's marketing managers are thinking?

Happy shooting,

Maybe, Canon wants lenses that compete head-to-head with Nikon counterparts.

24-70/4L IS vs 24-85mm VR

Then,

24-120/4L IS vs 24-120mm VR

So, it's possible that the new 24-70/4L IS could cost $900 or under. (From the recent Canon pricing, I don't really want to say it'll be as cheap as $600, as the Nikon 24-85 VR.)

Bonus feature is that if you shoot it at 24mm you won't need a fisheye!

Then how come Canon still haven't come up with something to compete with Nikon 14-24? - One of the best lenses ever made.

The world doesn't need another 24-70 for Canon. With this one, there will be five of them!

24-70L (Still in stock at some places, and a big supply of 2nd hand.)
24-70L II f/2.8
24-70L II f/4.0
Tamron 24-70
Sigma 24-70

Nah. CR2 is very low reliability, CR3 is in the realm of "there is some chance this might be true". CR5 is the "pretty much confirmed" rating.

Not so. Look at CR's homepage.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Well, you might have a point but I must confess that I don't think that following Nikon is a good strategy.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

And with a click of "profile correction" on LR, distortion is gone!

I would guess that this is going to be an 'affordable' zoom that has the new more accurate focusing mechanism as tested by Roger at LensRentals. I like my 24-105, but if this is highly accurate (Roger's tests were showing PDAF reaching similar accuracy as CDAF on newer Canon lenses) - then I'd consider upgrading if IQ is also very good on the new lens.

The 24-105 could use an update, and is far more versatile as a kit or walk-about lens than a 24-70.

I'm kind of surprised Canon doesn't update and upgrade the old affordable 28-135 IS to a 24-135 IS, equivalent to the crop frame 15-85 IS, one of my favorite crop lenses.

Wasn't there just a price drop on the 24-105? Maybe this is true....
