isn't there an iso setting on the d7k where auto iso has a bad of ranges? i know that's how i have always had it set up on my cameras...anyway i hope you get enough good results to make you happy. the d7k is supposed to be pretty good at high iso...

Yes, there is a place where you can set the ISO, that is where I have mine at 100.

You are correct about the D7K been good at high ISO, but even at 8000 or 10000 its a bit noisy for my taste.
