I have decided to try PhotoSmith on my iPad, as it should be able to exactly what I am dreaming of: ranking and keywording the pictures of my Lightroom 4 library on my iPad (it would be convenient for me to do this while in transportations, or while in a café, and without killing the battery of my laptop).
So far, I cannot get it to synchronize the metadata back to the Lightroom library:
- it tries to synchronize other pictures found on my iPad (which are not in my Lightroom library, and which I do not want to bring into my Lightroom library);
- it does not succeed to synchronize the metadata that I have edited (star rankings, picks, keywords).
@XR - Have you tried hitting up support.photosmithapp.com or contacting support for assistance? We're at a very stable release right now, especially re: sync. Make sure you're up to date on both the iPad app and associated Lightroom plugin. If they're both up-to-date (v2.2.1 on app, v2.2.0 on plugin) it sounds like you may not have sync configured correctly - we're more than happy to help you out, we'd like to see everything work for you!
@gorillaradio We'd like to help you as well, but it sounds like you may have made up your mind already to not try and make our workflow run smoothly.
Please email me personally at [email protected] or here via PM - I want to either make it right for you by either working towards making the app and workflow work or figure out a way to get your money back. The last thing we want to be accused of is stealing peoples money!
Thank you very much for your reply. I have not tried contacting photosmith support yet, as I was planning to do this in the next step, if I would not find useful information here.
I will definitely check the versions, but cannot do it right now (I am on the road, and the wireless network I am on does not seem to accept my iPad for some reason).
Sounds good - feel free to contact me any time via my personal email listed above, or via the Photosmith support section. Photosmith is a complicated system of interconnected pieces, so not only can configuration be a little daunting at first, we also fairly agressive at issuing updated bug fixes for both the app and the Lightroom plugin. We've made every attempt to make things as automatic as possible, but sometimes, a little bit of manual configuration is needed.
Both the app and the LIghtroom plugin are still under very active development - there's a lot we want to do still to make the workflow and integration even tighter.
