p.2 #1 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
Of my Nikons,
FM2 was perfect
Coolpix 900 was intriguing in its era, but no competition for 135 film
D300 was the first Nikon sensor that delivered the goods
D3000 was a great travel cam, but pretty poor with color & highlights
D5100 is perfect
p.2 #2 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
Canon Rebel XT - my first DSLR. I'm sure it worked as intended but the indoor flash pictures were horrible. Returned.
Nikon D70s - Worked great. Still works mostly. Dropped it and the flash no longer works.
Nikon D2H - bought used from Ivan. Still works great. Grip rubber is peeling though.
Nikon D2Xs - bought used from Darren. Worked great till it fell on floor 3 weeks ago. Now mount is twisted. Will try to repair myself.
Nikon D3100 - bought used with low shutter count from B&S here. Worked great. Still works great.
Nikon D300 - bought used 2 weeks ago from local guy. Worked well for the intended use. Will sell it in 2 weeks time.

p.2 #3 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
D70s -- was disappointed at first since my P&S did as well -- but then I learned how to use it properly and it blew the P&S out of the water. Loved that camera.
D300 -- ah, just what the Dr. ordered. I love this camera
D400 -- where the hell is it By now we should be expecting a D500, not a D400! Bad Nikon, Bad Nikon
p.2 #4 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
Pentax K10D - worked great. Had the usual Pentax issues (poor AF, flash exp).
Pentax K20D - worked great. See above.
Nikon D40 - bought refurb'd, worked great. Sold for a profit.
Nikon D700 - 3 years together still going strong. Zero issues.
Sony RX100 - working great. Finish not holding up as good as expected, but a black marker will take care of that.

2. D7000, D800, and D600 all had to be dialed in and required improved shooting skills.
Same experience with the D7K and D800E. Both required a recalibration of my shooting skills, to the point that I am using my D800E exclusively from a tripod or monopod, mostly using manual focus and a separate electronic viewfinder.
I confess that all initial D800E issues were user errors. After I got the hang of the camera and fine-tuned the steps needed for raw processing, the camera makes even the most beaten-up, out-of-production 105mm AIS lens shine.
p.2 #6 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
N80 - No problems, still have don't use
D50 - No problems, sold it
D200 - No problems, gave it to my son
D300 - love this camera
D7000 - No problems, needs to be dialed in for a couple of lens
X100 - Love this little camera
p.2 #9 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
Nikon D40 - Worked fine (except that dang lack of focus motor. Wouldn't be a big deal now)
Nikon D70s - Worked very well
Nikon D200 x 2 - First worked very well, second had major focusing issues
Nikon D90 - Major back-focus problems, strange colors
Nikon D300* - Excellent camera, despite the fact that I think it needs a permanent -7 fine tune for all lenses. Definitely needed more shot discipline compared to the lower megapixel cameras. I used to think I was good at hand-holding...
Nikon 1 V1* - I love this little thing. Hard to get used to the menu diving and the stupid mode dial, but other than that...great!
p.2 #10 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
Yes, but not exactly for those reasons. My past three Nikon DSLRs have all had problems out of the box. It's like they are not tested during and after assembly.
p.2 #11 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
Some cameras have worked out better for me than others:
N6006--maybe the best Nikon I ever had, dollar for dollar.
N90s--faster focus, but heavy. Worked fine though.
F100--Best Nikon I've ever owned, light & fast shooting.
N80--back up & travel camera. Fragile, but worked fine until it fell apart.
F5--Big, heavy, cumbersome. Better off shooting medium format. Worst Nikon I"ve ever used.
D80--meter not really accurate, overexposes often.
D300--did what I asked of it.
D5100--very nice, love the fold out screen, controls slow me down,
the video is quite disappointing.
Leica IIIc (1942)--a pain to load but coolest camera I've ever owned.
Rolleiflex MX (1951)--currently my favorite camera, but fixed lens.
Chamonix 045n-01 (2010)--a delight to use! No disappointments with it.
Voigtlander Bessa RF (1937)--Heliar lens is my favorite! Better built than my Nikons.
p.2 #13 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
F5 - Lightning AF, machine gun shutter speed and tough enough to hammer nails in with it.
D80 - worked really well
D700 - rear LCD failed but was repaired under warranty and turned around in a little over a week by Nikon UK
D7000 - perfect and much more of a camera than I am a photographer.
p.2 #16 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
D40- Great camera and intro into DSLR photography. Produced great images.
D80- Loved the added functionality to the body. IQ seemed harsh/digital.
D700- What more can be said about a legend that has not already been said?
D800- Would like to get one, but the huge amount of reported QC issues scare me off. Will wait and see if the issues are ever ironed out.
p.2 #17 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
I owned the D1X, a lemon from day one. Spend 1000 dollars on repairs, but it didn't help. Sold it for my repair costs: 1000 dollars.
The D200 was and is a great camera. No problems.
The D800 can be very good, but I cannot rely on it's AF. Therefore I haven't used it yet for any serious work. I hope it performs much better if I have the AF repaired. Problem is that I have to travel 175 miles two times for the Nikon Service and have to take two days off.

I had no issues, and got my body in August.
Yeah, there are a few lucky ones, but there are a few friends I know that have problems and I read about many more online. I will probably wait until next spring as Nikon sounds like they are not fessing up to any problems in the first place. Only problem is that I vacillate between replacing my body or getting a new lens or two.
p.2 #20 · Are you dissappointed with your new camera?
I just moved from a D60 to the D7000 and it required a bit of an adjustment on my part. The camera is fantastic. Apparently my skills weren't. After upping my game, things are coming together nicely.
