I was there on Friday, October 12th. It was really foggy and rainy, so I wasn't able to see anything from the upper areas. I spent the day on the valley floor and there were a few trees with the colors changing but still plenty of green. This was the first time I was there, so I don't have anything to base it off of, but just wanted to provide some sort of update.

I wasn't actually into the valley this time but I did notice quite a good start of color on the black oaks at the junction coming down out of Crane Flat when I came through there Friday, October 12th.

Michael Frye posted on this topic at his blog a few days ago. He reports that while some trees are showing a bit of color, mostly things are still green. He feels that the color change in the Valley will not be early, in which case you might expect it near the end of October. (I generally shoot for around Halloween.) The middle of October is usually too early for the Valley.
I can't give you any personal updates, since I've been shooting in an entirely different location for the past two weeks. (And in this other location, things certainly did seem to be a week or so early this year.)

Just got back today. Some color, but would guess another week till peak color in the valley. However, other side of 120 is at peak right now. But road closed yesterday due to snow storm.
Taken yesterday during a break in the storm. You can see fresh snow on half dome.

This is a site I have started checking to see how the tree colors are progressing. He takes landscape picture every few days. He has a lot from today and the climbing pictures are also interesting.

Just back from overnight in Yosemite Valley. Color still has a long way to go. Tioga Pass was closed overnight and there was a fresh light coat of snow on the peaks. I'd guess 10 more days before better color. The big show right now is the Big Leaf Maple along the Merced River Canyon. Black oaks have a ways to go. And a first for me, Yosemite Falls is dry!

I just got back, too. No time to process pictures yet. Lots of yellow from big Leaf Maples and oaks in the valley and in cliff side canyons, along the river, etc., but agree, not as full yet as I saw it several years ago. Dogwood in the higher areas along the roads is pretty but mostly pink and still a lot hasn't changed much. Random shiny red specimens here and there. The Big Oak flat road area west of Crane Flat and before the 6% down grade seemed to be the highest concentration of dogwood that was changing, again, mostly pinkish. I guess it was too wet Monday but they've been burning a "management fire" of collected wood from clearance areas, construction sites, not too far from the road junctions and Valley View. It didn't seem to be affecting Valley View but was pretty obvious from Tunnel View some of the times I passed through.

The good news is that the leaves are in really good shape this year. They don't appear to be drying up and falling off and they aren't bug eaten. So many trees of perfect ;eaves.
