p.1 #1 · Hawk Mountain Paper -- RIP

From Hawk Mountain's recent newsletter:

"We have decided to close down the business after 15 years due to the continuing recession (since 2008!) and the gradual decline in our sales. Current revenues do not make it worthwhile to continue. That's business.

Thank you to all of you, our loyal customers, for your support over the past fifteen years. It has been a good run. We have enjoyed getting to know many of you and we hope that through our efforts we brought quality inkjet media into your life and delivered good value.

I will write to y'all again before we fold the tent for good at the end of 2012. I will also provide suggestions for other sources for papers and fabrics in my farewell address.

Dan Blevins - President"

I would think Breathing Color much more likely to go than Red River.

Now that would be a shame as Breathing Color produces top notch papers whereas red river is a run of the mill cheap paper source.

From what I have seen on advanced printing forums, Breathing Color is gaining a lot of support. I'd be surprised to see it die.

I do not like RR stuff myself, but they have quite a strong following in certain circles.

Breathing Color have name recognition for canvases, but for papers, maybe not. Until the introduction of Pura Velvet, all of their paper were chock full of OBAs.

I use their Lyve canvas exclusively. Very good. I also use their Optica 1 matte paper. Excellent dmax for a matte paper.

Breathing Color is a larger company than you might think. Other than their own fine art medias and canvas, they produce/manufacture/coat inkjet papers/canvas for other companies.

I use Breathing Color's Lyve Canvas for all my canvas portraits, as well as a few of their other select fine art substrates.
