p.1 #1 · 35 vs 50

Hey guys, I'm torn between which lens to purchase. My choices are between the AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G and the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G Reviews on both are great but I'm not sure which would fit my style better with my D3100. I like to shoot pretty much everything sports, nature, people, dogs, indoor, outdoor. I plan on getting both but which would you think I would get the most use of first?

Thanks
Nick

think allot of people agree that on a crop body that a 35 would be considered a more 'normal' lens...probably be what I would do...50 will be 75 on yours and kind of a 'tweener', not ideal for most things..

On a crop body, I'd go 35/1.8 all the way if I had to pick one. From lots of experience, 50mm ends up long for lots of indoor work.

A 35 is pretty long at times too. Shame on Nikon for not releasing a 16 or 18mm f/1.8-2 lens for DX.

+1 to 35 1.8, check the Buy&Sell there is many of them there. As for a 16/18mm 1.8 for DX, that would be nice though the price will be off putting

I"d also vote for the 35mm FL on DX.

I started out with the 50mm f/1.8g. I now have both, but I tend to lean towards the 50, I'm not sure if it's because I've been working with it long or not. Both are great lenses. I find that the with the 35 there is more lens distortion than with the 50.

Either way you go, have fun with it.
