There was a dearth of Cheetahs to check out the performance of the 5dIII + 70-200 f/2.8 IS II, so I thought the Pig Races at the LA County Fair would be a fair enough substitute. The race venue was not brightly lit, the racers were fast, so an ISO of 6400 with shutter speed 1/1600 was in order. Needless to say, the combination fared very well.
There was a great incentive for the contestants to run as speedily as possible: at race's end we were handed out coupons for Free Bacon redeemable at the local supermarket.
And there off, it's blue handkerchief in front of red, butcher closing in from the rear...just out of focus
Nice piggies Db! Mmmm a pulled pork sani...I'm hungry!
My 5dIII / 70-200 2.8 II combo seems really slow autofocusing, especially while shooting hockey. The lens is less than a month old, so I have heard a few cases of improvement after breaking in. Is this true? It seems like my 70-200 f/4 IS focused much faster.
This little piggy went to market,
This little piggy stayed home,
This little piggy had jam and bread,
This little piggy had none,
And this little piggy went wee wee wee all the way home...

Haven't really noticed this phenomenon Brian. My autofocus seems fine, but I can try to do some quantitative observation on this.
Hmm, well technically these are highly bred racing piglets. You'll note that green's ears are erect and proving him with an "airfoil advantage."
Actually I AM impressed with how camera and lens stayed on focus in the last shot. Was this typical of all the shots or just one or two out of a sequence? Lots of fun, though I'd guess the contestants weren't amused with the with the viewers' "prize."
