So I think I want the 50mm prime (or the 35mm not sure which just yet) and wanted your opinion on whether to get the Nikon Normal AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D or the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G Lens? I have a D3100 with the kit lens 18-55 and a 55-200zoom, although I have my eyes on a D7000. My question is, is the af-s worth the extra 100 bucks?
The 1.8D will not autofocus on your D3100, although it will on a D7000. Still, I've had both and I think the 1.8G is much better. It's sharper wide open, has MUCH better color and contrast wide open, and is more resistant to flare. I'd take the 1.8G over the 1.8D any day, even though it's a bit more money.
Ah thanks Mike! I'll be staying with DX for a while, I don't plan on going to FX anytime soon. I'm still new to photography so it will take a while before I learn everything.
Thanks again for the help.
Nick
+1 for the 35 1.8G on DX, though the 50 is great for portrait on DX. Don't forget to checkout the Buy&Sell section, the 35 1.8G goes for $140 shipped in like new condition
