dude - get a grip. I already stated I was excited about attending a seminar. Do you mind if I share my excitement? Sheesh, this place can be such a downer sometimes.

I thought they have something else called facebook for the masses to share their excitement. On the other hand, this is the Lighting & Studio Techniques forum for serious photography students to learn the ropes.

Last time I checked, discussions about a photography lighting and studio seminar was within the "approved" topics list for this forum. If you disagree, report the posting to the moderator or put me on your ignore list.

You present someone who is mediocre at best in lighting and color-grading department. I don't have any problem with anyone who completely feels exceedingly excited about anything. But, I feel it's more appropriate to move your personal longing stuff to your social media sites.

I have to disagree on all counts. I'd be interested to see your work since you are so judgemental. It's funny but you have contributed more off-topic content to this group in this thread than anything I've seen here over the last few weeks.

I am here to clear up a few things... I am a "hobbyist" and I also shoot for 3 fashion magazines and Mica Bella Cosmetics and turn down all other commercial gigs because I work full time, 3 years left, and I will 30 years in at 55. I shoot because it's an artistic outlet and not for my personal "exposure" as I am doing things like a series on "abuse" to help women get out of, or not get into, horrible situations... I never put my logo on my work... I don't ask models to credit me... and I never join forums unless I have to, like today so I am not misunderstood...

Teaching is the best way to learn, because it makes you study, it makes you have to answer questions you may have never thought of before plus it benefits others. I teach for AfterDark Education, Inferno, PPA state events, WPPI events, SPA, Photovision and more (remember I'm not a "Pro")

Just here to clear things up and not make waves, I hope everyone understands... thanks very much!

Jack, I see your posting in forums because I have Google Alerts running...

You can keep kissing a toad but you won't turn it into a frog. You can agree or disagree but a fact is a fact is a fact. I did a search here on the forum on recent posts, I have answered someone's question on which beauty dish to choose from, and I haven't tried to peddle anyone's workshop here at all. You PMed me and called me "douche bag" , and that's fine. But, I recommend you look into the mirror when you get a chance.

Then, you're the guru, and lots of gurus like you offer workshops. I understand the fact that my work sucks big time but I have no ego, nor do I need any confirmation from any print magazines. I don't do any "art" stuff since I don't shoot any half naked young female model at all. Fortunately, I don't read those magazines that you mentioned, and don't find the need to shoot any print magazine covers since I won't get paid enough for doing that. Perhaps you are well-known in that world and can get paid handsomely for doing that. But, one thing is that I shoot to eat, which makes us different.

Kudos to you for making a living out it, as it takes marketing, sales and an artistic eye. I only posted because you judged my work and made me have to defend it. I would never openly insult anyone's imagery as we are all different and have our own styles, that doesn't mean one is correct and one is wrong, it just means we are diverse. I haven't viewed your work but if you are making a living out of it, then obviously it can't "suck...". I wish you continued success!

Brian, really beautiful images! Thank you for posting here.

I love your color pallate, and the 2 dimensional, graphic design feel of your images. They echo some of the classic posters from the turn of the century in the subdued but sophisticated pallette. But tehy are not in any sense deriviative.

It is really beautiful work. I also admire that it isn't about T&A, or exploitive, as so much fashion work is. I always had really mixed feelings working in fashion. It is so regressive, exploitive, and even abusive of the models, especially young women who are drawn to the industry.

Brian & ZTucker, I apologize for the forum here. Many of the other forums at FM are more professional and civilized. For some reason many posts in the Lighting forum seem to turn into a pissing match, revolving around trivia. There is no reason for a participant not to discuss a seminar here.

Z, thanks for sharing Brian's work. Have a great time at the workshop!

I agree with others here, too, that it is disappointing that it is so hard to make a living as a full time, professional photographer today.

Photography as a "profession" is in crisis when even the very talented still depend on their spouses or their full time "day" jobs to make a living. That doesn't hold out much hope for those just out of school who would like to make a living at the profession as they hone their craft.

Cheers! Good luck!

Best,
Michael

I have been hearing this ever since I started assisting in the 80s....the photo biz is always in a "crisis", well out of chaos (or crisis) comes opportunity, adapt or die. And I bet on the restaurant forums or golf pro forums people are singing the same tune, things were so much better "back then".
