Just got back last week from visiting Portland and its surrounding places. Beautiful areas to visit, wish that I would stay longer to explore more places. These are some pictures that I just processed.

You really found some breathtaking settings! These are all very appealing but #1 blows me away with the combination of fall color and the framing of the falls. I think the last one is also very storng but on my monitor the very bottom part of the image seems unnaturally bright compared with the adjacent sections.

Last one, as Phil said, was from Smith Rocks Oregon. You'll need to visit this place, it is actually in Bend, Oregon. I was there during sunset, but I bet you sunrise might be better since the sun rises might glow the rocks and might be very special. As I said, not much time for me on this visit, 5 days in many places. Bend is a pretty nice little town, lots of nice restaurants and nice people. I would not hesitate to go there again.
Phil, the bottom part of #5 could be a bit bright compared to the rest because I wanted to contrast the rest to the sky a bit more than it was actually.

Actually on both of my monitors, the Dell U2711 and the Apple Thunderbolt, the last one, Smith Rocks, the brightness balance on top and bottom looks just right...to me.

My computer is currently being upgraded...so I can't get to the image data, but I think Roman is right...around that time 6-7pm. Got there around 5pm, hung around, took bunch of images, walked around, but the special ones did not come until after the sun almost went down, so be patient and wait...
If I did not left a little early, i would have captured even better colors of the sunset, when the sun disappeared totally under the horizon, so I need to stay until dark next time
I stayed at a small nearby town, Bend, about 30-45 minutes away. Nice town, great foods, and especially great was the Thump coffee in the morning. If you go there, get the fresh pastries on the counter, not in the front shelves. Also, try Cafe Yumm for lunch or dinner, love the sauce!
