I imaged your raw file three separate times - then combined them + some Photoshop to produce what I posted. I was just trying to help, because I like the image. I just was thinking out loud about what I would do differently to improve it, and I didn't mean for it to come off sounding critical.
No worries James - I very much appreciate the effort that you and others have taken to help improve upon this image and the next time I get a chance to try this.
This is kind of an old thread, but it's a really cool shot and I wanted to give it a try. Here's what I came up with in Lightroom. You could get a really cool silhouette if there were some clouds around the moon with the plane in front of them. That would be rather difficult to arrange though.
Anyhow, here's what I came up with. Alaskan Air? The tail logo looks like it to me.
Cool - thanks for bringing this one back up. I've not had time to work on it the last couple of weeks.
I'm slowly realizing that there are better tools for making severe curve changes to images like this than NX2. I'm going to work on this one in LR4 and CS6 to see what I can get.

The exposure lacks DR - I would set up auto bracketing if you try again, and then combine frames. Here is what I got....
Nice job!!!
